It provides a complete background and overview of the actual thesis. This is the first and most important step of your thesis. The committee will then review the proposal and on the basis of that proposal your future of dissertation writing would be decided. Because the dissertation proposal is the outline of your actual thesis it should not be taken lightly and it should be developed with quality research. The dissertation proposal is no doubt the core in writing a dissertation, because it would determine either to go ahead or not.
Before writing the dissertation proposal one thing should be kept in mind that writing the dissertation proposal is different from writing a dissertation itself, reason being the dissertation proposal is nothing more than a trailer or a promo of what is about to come.
Now the next step is how to write an effective dissertation proposal, for that matter some steps are given below:
- Introduction of the topic:
- Purpose of the study:
- Abstract
- Methodology
In this section, a brief preface would be given to the reader, some basic knowledge about the study, a general introduction to the topic of your dissertation, an overview of the large issue which has been discussed in the later part.
Here you will describe on solid grounds the need of this study. Why did you choose this topic, and what impact would the study have. This section would describe the main reason of the study and try to answer the questions above.
In abstract you will suggest as to how you look at this problem, what are the key points on which you are going to construct this building etc.
This part deals with how the study would be conducted. Either it would be qualitative research or quantitative research or in a case study form. In this section a detailed explanation would be given on the future course of action the data collection method, the procedure and plan etc.
This brings us to the first part of the job that is designing a proposal of the dissertation. The dissertation proposal report at Doctoral level should be somewhere around 25,000-30,000 words that would make 40-60 pages.
